About the CD...
The whole thing contains (a CD of course!) a booklet with sixteen pages
of pure nostalgia and fun. As an homage to the one and only C64 magazine
Zzap!64, the booklet has been made in that special Zzap style. The front
page is a drawing with elements from some of the covered tunes, all
inspired by the dynamics in Oliver Frey's paintings for the Zzap covers.
The booklet also contains reviews of the covered songs-of course with
comments from all the PPOT members, each with a drawing of the reviewer
doing something completely silly. The booklet also contains several
surprices, which will not be revealed here - some are commercials and
there just might be an alternative cover/back in there.
Quotes from the back cover:
- "Very nice! You guys are so hard to pin down" ---Martin Galway
- "You guys are crazy, and I love it!" ---Ben Daglish
- "These guys just keep getting better and better. Let's keep SID LIVE !!"
---Rob Hubbard
- "Great stuff!" ---Martin Galway
Feedback from the composers!
We sent a CD to the original composers of the tunes we play on this CD and here is some of the feedback we got:
"I love what you did with my Mission AD music - it mixed well with Hypa-Ball and sounded really powerful. I love the whole album in fact - very diverse and well produced - great arrangements too"
Fred Gray
"It is really astounding ... I didn't realize that you had done it[Defender of the Crown] a cappella! Excellent ..." Jim Cuomo
"Wow, I am really pleased with what you have done with the Hypa-Ball track, gave me a big nostalgia trip, great work..." Keith Tinman
Reviews
The danish site GeekCulture has a review (in danish) and LaLa have posted this review on the c64rmx-mailinglist.
The vocal “bards” rendition of Defender of the Crown is as funny as it is a masterly produced real musical gem, the pop-like Comic Bakery is another example of just how much new life this band has manage to bring to the C64 tunes. Other tracks include Hypa-ball vs Mission AD, Arkanoid, Tiger Mission, Phantom (of the Asteroid), Kettle, Bionic Commando, Nemesis the Warlock (amazing version!), The Way of the Exploding Fist, Fairlight, Star Paws, Flimbo's Quest, Roland's Rat Race, Wizball Game Over, Wizball High Score, Sacred Armour of Antiriad and Crazy Comets. Every track sounds completely different from the last one with vastly different arrangements and productions, making the whole CD exciting and interesting from beginning till end. Great!
